About Me
Hi there, my name is Kelsey Hood!
I'm a homeschooling mom of 4! I love spending time with my family, watching exciting tv shows and old movies or taking on an art project. We host a book club, go to a Bible study and we love our church. I'm originally from Texas, grew up in Mexico (hablo Español!) and have happily grown my roots here in Memphis.
I fell in love with birth at just 13 years old. A family friend gave birth at home and I saw how beautiful it is when a woman is empowered and supported enough to choose the birth that is right for her and her family. I saw how calm it can be. Later on, I experienced for myself how important it is that every woman has the support or knowledge she needs. I'm here to offer that for the woman who gives me the honor and privilege to be there for her while she's at her most powerful and at her most vulnerable. I help her find the beauty and peace she needs no matter what she chooses, in the hospital or at home, or no matter what her birth holds for her.
I have had 4 births of my own; our first baby was a vaginal delivery, I had an 8 week miscarriage, our 2nd baby was a preterm emergency c-section that led to a 9 month NICU stay, our 3rd baby was a repeat c-section and our fourth was a vaginal delivery (my vba2c!). They were each so unique in their own way, and all truly transformative. I nursed all of my babies with the exception of my second, I breastfed him by pumping and feeding him first by gtube and then by bottle.
My journey as a birth doula started in 2019 when I began my birth doula education by reading and learning from others as often as I could. I've spent a lot of my sleepless nights nursing my babies while learning all I could. In 2020 I attended my first birth doula workshop with DONA and then things got much more exciting when I attended my first birth as a doula in 2023 (with a big enough baby bump myself that it had the nurses asking if I was there on the labor/delivery floor to be seen!) I began volunteering as a birth prep mentor at Life Choices in 2026.
